Dr. Heesun Nam
Why do people seek out East Asian herbal therapy at the heart of New York City?
This question changed the course of Dr. Nam’s career. Already a practicing Korean Medicine Doctor, she was interviewing acupuncture patients in Manhattan’s Financial District for her anthropology research when she noticed something striking. Patient after patient told her the same story: “Nothing else worked for my condition.”
From chronic skin conditions to sleep disorders, these patients had exhausted conventional options before turning to acupuncture. As they improved, many became curious about herbal medicine but encountered a frustrating barrier – inconsistent quality and lack of standards in American herbal products.
Drawing on her unique perspective as both Korean Medicine practitioner and anthropologist, Dr. Nam realized that Korean Medicine’s integration into South Korea’s national healthcare system made it uniquely positioned to bridge this gap. Unlike other traditional medicine systems, Korean Medicine had already adapted to modern scientific standards while preserving its traditional wisdom.
After practicing in an integrative long-term care hospital in Korea and completing her Master’s in anthropology, Dr. Nam became board-certified to practice herbal medicine and acupuncture in the US with a mission: to bring Korean herbal therapy’s evidence-based approach to patients seeking effective alternatives.
Dr. Jihyuk Park
What if the herbal treatment used in America's top cancer hospital were available to everyone?
This question transformed Dr. Park’s practice. After completing his Korean Medicine education, his work as a public health doctor in rural Korea revealed everyday healthcare challenges that conventional medicine couldn’t always address. Alongside this service, he developed expertise in TMJ/spinal treatment and integrative cancer care—areas where patients frequently found conventional options lacking. These specialized skills eventually led him to America as director of an integrative medicine center in New Jersey, established as an overseas branch of a prominent Korean Medicine brand.
The pivotal moment in his career came during visits to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Park was astonished to discover America’s leading cancer hospital had already integrated East Asian herbal medicine into patient care, using powdered formulas to address various symptoms and treatment side effects. Witnessing patients’ positive responses to these integrative approaches at such a prestigious institution crystallized his vision.
He realized a troubling disparity: while MSK patients benefited from cutting-edge integrative care, countless others had no access—either because they couldn’t become patients at this elite institution or because they weren’t cancer patients at all. His thriving Upper East Side practice soon confirmed his intuition: New Yorkers from all backgrounds were actively seeking evidence-based complementary approaches for their diverse health concerns.
Dr. Park recognized his calling: to bring the same high-quality herbal therapy approach to a broader population, making these scientifically-supported treatments accessible to everyone who could benefit from them.
Together, we've created a practice that honors both classics of East Asian medicine and modern standards. We're committed to providing herbal therapy that's:
- Sourced with uncompromising quality standards
- Backed by both traditional knowledge and modern research
